The 2023 American Flat Track season ends this weekend, with two rounds at the famous Springfield Mile. The top two riders in the SuperTwins class are split by just one point.
It's Jared Mees v Dallas Daniels; Indian v Yamaha; the old timer v the young gun.
Mees has eight twins titles to his name, Daniels is only in his second twins season, but won back-to-back AFT Singles titles before progressing to the Twins class.
Mees has scored eight wins from 16 races so far this season. He has missed out on the podium three times with a lowest finish of sixth, at the Arizona TT when he crashed and remounted.
Daniels has five wins this season, and has only been off the podium once out of the 16 races, a fifth at the Peoria TT.
So, out of 32 starts this season, between them the pair have:
13 x 1st place
9 x 2nd place
6 x 3rd place
That is an incredible level of consistency, from the riders and their teams.
The final two rounds are mile races. There have been three miles so far this season. Mees has won them all. Daniels was second, second, third.
Mees has won five of the previous six Springfield Miles. Jared and wife Nicole are also the race promoters. Will the the pressure of running the company that is putting on two days of racing going affect the outcome?
We can only imagine the pressure going into this weekend.
