Champ!

Son of Sideburn, Max Inman rode conservatively (for him at least) to a second place to clinch the 2021 DTRA Minibike championship yesterday.

UK minibikes are different to what people think of them in North America. In the DTRA they are Honda CRF100 and 125 or Yamaha TT-R125 (with 17in front wheel, 15in rear), for this class they must be completely stock, including the exhaust end can, with front brake disconnected (or simply front lever removed). Some race with knobblies, others with road bike rubber. It is a very, very competitive class, often with 24 or more entries.

I love this photo because if you add the ages of second and third placed, Max and Leon Jones the sum is still only 72% of first placed rider (and former British champ road racer), Paul Young. The minibike class attracts a wide variety of riders, many of whom use it as a second class to pros, inters, rookie, vintage or Twins. It's a great stepping stone into the sport too.

Well done to all this years DTRA champs, podium finishers and survivors.

Thanks to the DTRA for a great series, and all the sponsors, and volunteers for making it happen.
