Alastair K sent us this nice email...

What a delight to get the back numbers of Sideburn I ordered - it has reminded me of the superb quality of the magazine. The graphic design, photography and art are all a marvel, and so perfectly judged.  And the content – fascinating and inspiring – is a London Review of Books for biking.

While I admire flat track, it’s not my primary interest, so I particularly value the peripheral stuff. For example, I loved the pieces about Lorenzo Eroticolour, the art of Raid71, the Sideburn Himalayan Tour (top quality travel writing) and the road-going TZ750.  Perhaps best of all – the piece on Article 58.  What a thrilling bike!  And the references to writers on Stalin’s Russia?  London Review of Books and bikes in one article: brilliant.

I’ve been struck by the pleasure I’ve had re-reading old copies of Sideburn, which tells us something, I think.  The spirit and integrity of it is a joy.

I need to buy some more back issues before they all sell out.  And the latest issue, too.

Congratulations on your top-class work.

Alastair K

I asked about the art that was attached, above, Alastair replied: 'The artwork is mine, and I’ll be delighted if you blog it. It’s one of a series of images for an artist’s book I’m planning based on the Scandinavian Biker Wars. They’re linocut prints, coloured on the computer. I do woodcut prints and wood engravings too, on various themes - there’s one of my wood engravings below. For my art work I use the name AK57.'
